Mary Ellen Zipper, Director of Client Relations, to offer advice for successful PHR implementation through case study findings for both patients and consumers

 

NEWTOWN, PA, May 16, 2008-- CapMed, a division of Bio-Imaging Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: BITI) and a leader in interactive personal health management solutions, today announced that Mary Ellen Zipper, Director of Client Relations, will educate attendees about the “Key to Personal Health Record Adoption” at this year’s TEPR conference in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, on May 20^th at 8 a.m. and 2 p.m.

 

“Educating both hospital staff and patients on the basics of PHR use and maintenance as well as its many benefits is essential for successful PHR adoption,” says Zipper. “Once educated, patients gain a valuable skill set for personal health management resulting in overall increased self-knowledge of their own health, while caregivers can begin to take the necessary steps needed to streamline their work and devote more time to providing quality care.”

 

CapMed is leading the way in PHR adoption, recognizing that ongoing education is needed in persuading patients to adopt and maintain a PHR. Zipper will be presenting a case study, highlighting a particular hospital’s success in rolling out a PHR program by effectively influencing patients to develop personal health records and educating them on how to maintain their newly-adopted technology. Points of interest to be addressed include easy-to-learn terms, hypothetical scenarios, learning sessions, and hands-on training along with how to give guidance on maintaining copies of medical records.

 

Despite the benefits and proposed incentives for ongoing PHR usage, widespread consumer adoption of PHRs will follow the availability of standardized electronic information that is easily imported and exported.  Because only 20 percent of physicians are utilizing EMRs in their practice of medicine, 80 percent of physicians cannot help their patients easily populate and maintain a comprehensive PHR which is why education on this subject matter is imperative within the healthcare industry.

 

The TEPR Conference includes more than 500 speakers, close to 5,000 attendees, and approximately 200 exhibitors. While at TEPR, CapMed will showcase its interoperability with other exhibitors.
